By Amanda Snowden,
Last week, I was able to attend the very first (and, hopefully annual) GalCon conference, sponsored by Girl Attorney, LLC, in Washington, DC. The purpose of the event was to empower female attorneys while also networking and getting CLE credit. Boy, did it ever do so – even to us non-attorneys that were fortunate enough to watch it in action. We had a lot of fun with our sponsored photo booth at the cocktails and dinner at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (who knew that vegan food could be so good?!).
Despite being under the weather, I got revved up listening to Linda Hirshman describe her book (Sisters in Law) about the different paths that Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg took to get to the Supreme Court and then how, despite very different views, they were able to come together to shape the direction of the Court.
Just getting to mix and mingle with so many powerful women was an incredible experience. We all let our hair down (figuratively, of course, since we all looked fabulous and were dressed to the nines just for each other, which was awesome). I am really proud of MediaSmack for supporting such a wonderful organization and we will definitely continue that partnership in the future.
